Who we are.
‘All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer…’
Calvary Chapel Newcastle (CCN) is an independent evangelical Christian church founded by Terry and Lindy Martens in 2002. Today we are an elder led congregation of people from all walks of life, meeting once a week in the heart of Newcastle city.
CCN is committed to simple worship and bible based teaching that people might know, love, and become fully committed followers of Jesus.
Calvary Chapel Newcastle is affiliated with the worldwide Calvary Chapel movement. The Calvary Chapel movement began in 1965 in Costa Mesa, California, with just twenty-five people. The church was planted in a pivotal time of history in the West Coast of the USA making room without judgement for a generation of hippies and surfers in the local church.
The Calvary Chapel movement grew from the West Coast of the USA to become a global movement with over 1,700 churches worldwide and a number of Bible College campuses across North America, Europe, and the Pacific.
One of the unique things about Calvary Chapel is it’s emphasis on ‘expositional teaching’. Expositional teaching is simply teaching which seeks to ‘expose’ the meaning and intent of the bible, both in its written context, as well as for people today.
