Who we are.

All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer…’

Acts 2:42

Calvary Chapel Newcastle (Calv’s) is a non-denominational Christian church meeting in the heart of Newcastle, NSW. The church was planted in 2002 by Terry and Lindy Martens who studied at Calvary Chapel Bible College, Murrieta, California. Over the years, we have grown from a household gathering to a small congregation of people meeting together once a week on Sundays for a 4pm service.

While our venues have changed, our simple approach to church has remained. Calv’s has always been committed to simple worship and straight verse-by-verse teaching through the Bible that people might know, love and become fully committed followers of Jesus.

Calvary Chapel:
The Movement

Calvary Chapel Newcastle is affiliated with the worldwide Calvary Chapel movement. The Calvary Chapel movement began in 1965 in Costa Mesa, California, with just twenty-five people. The church was planted in a pivotal time of history in the West Coast of the USA making room – without judgement – for a generation of hippies and surfers in the local church.

The Calvary Chapel movement grew from the West Coast of the USA to become a global movement with over 1,700 churches worldwide and a number of Bible College campuses across North America, Europe, and the Pacific. A ‘distinctive’ of Calvary Chapel is it’s emphasis on teaching through the Bible verse by verse; an approach which has helped millions of people to understand who God is and what His message is to humanity.
